Terms of use

These terms apply to The Great Paper Expansion ("the game", "we", "us"), played at thegreatpaperexpansion.com. By playing the game or using the website, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the game.
The game
The game is free to play. Optional purchases are available in the game's Store (see "Purchases" below); you never need to buy anything to play. We're always improving it, so features, balance, content and the leaderboard may change, and parts of the game may be added, changed or removed over time.
Your account and progress
A guest account is created for you automatically when you start playing. You can add an email address to keep your progress across devices. You're responsible for keeping access to that email address.
We work hard to keep your progress safe, both in your browser and in your cloud save, but we can't guarantee it will never be lost, for example if your browser data is cleared before a cloud save, or because of a technical problem.
Purchases
The game's Store sells optional items, such as Golden Thread, gold and the Supporter Pack. Here's how purchases work:
- Account needed. You need an account with an email address ("Save across devices") to buy, so your purchases stay safe on any device you sign in on.
- Payment. Payments are handled by our payment processor on its own secure page. We never see or store your card details. Prices are shown in the Store before you pay and may change over time; any change never affects a purchase you've already made.
- Delivery. Items are added to your account as soon as the payment is confirmed, usually within seconds, and appear in the game the next time it connects.
- What you're buying. Items in the Store are a personal, non-transferable license to use them in the game. They have no cash value, can't be exchanged for money, and can't be sold, traded or given to another account. As the game changes, we may adjust how items work, for example for game balance.
- All sales are final, except where the law requires otherwise. If something went wrong with a purchase (for example it never arrived, or you were charged twice), email us at hello@thegreatpaperexpansion.com and we'll put it right. When you buy, you ask us to deliver your item right away, and you agree that once it's delivered you lose any right to cancel the purchase, where the law allows that.
- Refunds and chargebacks. If a payment is refunded or reversed, the items it bought are removed from your account.
- Under 18? Please ask a parent or guardian before buying anything.
- If the game ends. If we ever stop offering the game or an item, we'll try to give reasonable notice in the game. Items have no value outside the game.
Player names
Your player name is shown publicly on the leaderboard. Names must be family-friendly: nothing offensive, hateful, sexual or threatening, nothing pretending to be someone else or to be the game's staff, and nothing personal like your real full name or contact details. We may change or remove any name that breaks these rules.
Fair play
Please play fair. Don't edit your save, use bots, scripts or auto-clickers to post scores, exploit bugs, or interfere with the game, the servers or other players. We check scores automatically and may hide scores, reset progress or remove accounts that break these rules. If you find a bug or a security problem, please tell us at hello@thegreatpaperexpansion.com instead.
The leaderboard
Leaderboard positions are for fun. We decide how scores are counted and checked, and we may correct, hide or reset entries at any time.
Our content
The game, its artwork, code, text and name belong to us. You may play it and share links and screenshots of it. You may not copy, re-host, modify, scrape or redistribute the game or its code, or put it on another website.
Ads and other websites
The website may show ads in the future, and it links to other websites. We aren't responsible for the content of ads or other websites.
No warranty
The game is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We don't promise it will always be available, error-free or secure.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss of data or progress, arising from your use of the game. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of US$10 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page. Continuing to play after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
